We yearn for Truth and for Beauty.
The realm of the artist is the imagination, expressed by means of the perfection of form, unsullied by the dross of the commonplace, the humdrum and the ugly, but rather turning only to the ideal, the beautiful, the truthful and the divine for inspiration.
Reality is unsuitable to the artist, who, fleeing it, discovers and delivers to his audience, that which transcends the tribulations of material existence so as to impart a lasting sense of satisfaction.
In “The Birth of Venus and Other Beauties,” I explore this realm in literature, theater, music, poetry and the fine arts.
